What Do You Want Out of Your Fishing Trip?

Even if you have no experience at all or saltwater fishing is something on your bucket list, you probably have ideas or thoughts about what you want from the trip. Perhaps you have a specific type of fish you'd like to angle, a fishing technique you'd like to learn, or hot spots you'd like to visit.

If you or your fishing companions have something special in mind for your next trip, be sure to mention it to your captain or first mate. By doing so, they can plan ahead and put together an itinerary accordingly. Likewise, if you're first-timers, be sure to let the crew know. By doing so, they can help you angle more effectively.

It's important to ask questions about what type of fishing trip suits you and the people in your group. For example, deep-sea fishing for large game fish is often the first thing people think of when they hear "charter fishing," but this isn't the only type of fishing expedition available.

Nearshore Reef Fishing

Cast your reels to fish in shallow waters for the freshest inshore species, including Giant Cobia, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Spade Fish, and Sea Bass. Our nearshore fishing trips are ideal for those with limited time or who want to add more diversity to an ordinary golf weekend.

Offshore Fishing

Fish in old deep water coral reefs from millions of years ago! Offshore fishing yields larger species of bottom fish such as Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack and pelagic fish that thrive higher in the water column. Our offshore fishing trips are excellent for every fishing enthusiast!

Deep-Sea Fishing

Salt Fin Charters gets you in the Gulf Stream! Our Premier deep sea saltwater fishing trip goes out 90 miles into the Gulf Stream to angle Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna. We use multiple fishing techniques, from trolling to kite fishing, to get the catch of a lifetime. Our deep sea fishing trips are great for experienced anglers to test their skills.

What Types Of Fish Are You After?

Low Country South Carolina offers a wealth of opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. Whether you prefer inshore fishing, bottom fishing, or want to explore the deep waters, there are plenty of species for your large group to catch. With over 100 species of fish found within the state's coastal waters alone, there are many ways to enjoy a day fishing with Salt Fin Charters.

Nearshore Reef Fishing excursions target shallow waters. Among the awesome fish found inshore include Giant Cobia, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Spade Fish, Sheepshead, Drum, and Sea Bass. This charter is ideal for people with a busy itinerary who don't want to miss a fantastic opportunity to get on the fish!

Our offshore fishing trips are perfect for guests interested in catching larger species and a variety of fish that call the bottom home, including Grouper, Snapper, and Amberjack. And, of course, there's always the chance to catch pelagic fish that thrive higher in the water column.

For experienced anglers and those in search of their first - or next - trophy fish, our deep sea fishing charters go out up to 90 miles into the Gulf Stream to angle Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Tuna.

Whatever day trip you decide upon, you can rely on our wealth of knowledge, and our onboard technology, which uses satellite imagery, wind, and current reports, as well as local knowledge to put you in the best spots to reel them in! In addition, we provide live bait and tackle to help you get the most out of your fishing expedition.

What Should I Pack Or Bring Aboard For My Charter Fishing Trip?

Here's what you need to bring! Remember, fishing is a lot of fun, but it's also a very active sport. Make sure you come prepared by packing the right items. We recommend bringing along:

  • Jacket
  • Raingear
  • Non-Skid Rubber Sole Shoes
  • Spare clothing - long pants, shorts, shirt, etc.
  • Waterproof bag (for phones, etc.)
  • Bug Spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Polarized Sunglasses
  • Lip Balm or Chapstick
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Zinc
  • Hats or Visors
  • A large water bottle or thermos
  • Drinks
  • Snacks
  • Motion Sickness Medication
  • Any other needed medication or personal items
  • Clean Cooler (for taking your catches home!)
  • ...and of course your camera!

Ideally, you want to bring everything you might need for a few hours or an entire day on the open water. You might consider bringing towels and a change of clothes, and other personal things you might need while onboard. Finally, if anyone in your fishing party is prone to motion sickness, we recommend you bring medication, just in case it's needed.

Salt Fin Charters provides bottled water, ice, and fishing gear (if needed) for your use during the trip; however, we ask guests to clean up after themselves and place trash in provided containers.

Don't forget a clean cooler! When you catch bags of fish, you want to be sure to bring them back with you. After the fishing boat returns to shore, our crew does the fish cleaning, so it's ready for your fresh dinner! We use guests' provided coolers and fill them with their cleaned catches of the day.

Life jackets in multiple sizes are always onboard. In addition, in South Carolina, individuals don't require a fishing license when on a fishing charter, making it easy for anyone to fish - without investing extra time or tackle!

What If There's Bad Weather?

At Salt Fin Charters, the safety and wellbeing of our crew and guests are always the highest priority. Of course, our goal is to provide a great experience for everyone - but sometimes Mother Nature has alternative plans.

As professional and experienced anglers and responsible charter operators, we understand how important it is to keep our guests safe. That's why we follow internal protocols to ensure that even if conditions aren't optimal, we make every effort to accommodate your needs.

We're happy to cancel any charter due to poor weather conditions. However, we ask that you give us at least a 24-hour notice before making such a request.

When the forecast calls for heavy rain, high winds, or rough seas, we'll assess the conditions and determine whether or not we feel comfortable continuing with the trip. Our goal is to always provide the best possible service to all of our guests, and we know our guests expect nothing less from us.

If we're already on the water and things get choppy, we know how to handle difficult weather conditions. Our captain and crew have vast experience navigating the seas and training to keep everyone safe and maintain a calm demeanor.
